the guitar appears to be derived from earlier instruments
like the sitar and the first appeared in spain.
the word guitar was adopted from spanish guitarra, that derived
from the Arabic word qitara wich in turn was derived from the early Greek word Kithara.

guitar means guit-, similar to Sanskrit sangeet meaning "music",
and -tar a widely attested root meaning "chord" or "string".

and then amplification and the electric guitar came, effects, modelers,
semi-acoustics etc. so now I have to deal with a lot of "stuff"
